GM did the right thing by recalling ineffective seat belts a few years back. It just would have been so much better if they used the right replacement parts.

Now to be fair, only 2,800 of the over 1 million recalled vehicles ended up with the wrong pretensioner cable assemblies but considering the last recalls were in 2016 and 2018 this probably won't sit well with the owners driving around with the wrong seat belts for the last few years.…

The 2015 Chevy Canyon is being recalled to fix intermittent power steering loss.

These trucks have had ongoing power steering issues because of corroded electrical connections inside the steering gear assemblies. GM plans on replacing the torque sensor cover assembly and applying anti-corrosion gel to the electrical connections. Let's hope it works.…

GM is urging owners of the 2021 Savana to park outside and away from anything that could burn until the vans get repaired.

Late last year they said the van's batteries could drain when the positive battery cable accidently came in contact with the fuse block assembly. Now they're saying it's less drain, more flame—as in at least four vans have gone up in smoke due to the batteries short-circuiting.…

GM thinks the 3rd row seat belts in their 2021 SUVs could have been damaged during installation.

The belts were misrouted behind the seat-folding mechanism and a recall wants to inspect and replace them if neccessary. Even if the belts don't look damaged to you, this is a classic better-safe-than-sorry situation.…

GM may have used the wrong bolts to secure the seat belts in certain the brand new 5th generation Yukon and Yukon XL.

Could the new bolts work? Maybe. But when it comes time to rely on the seat belts, it's better knowing the right parts were used to tether them to the frame.…

You’ve barely had a chance to get your 2019 truck dirty before buzzkill GM comes knocking for a recall of damaged airbag control modules.

The busted module means the passenger side airbag might not deploy in a crash … or maybe it will? No-one really knows and that’s kind of the point.

The recall covers the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 / GMC Sierra 1500 and is expected to begin on December 26th. I’m glad they didn’t plan it for the 24th, the traffic can be awful with all those grandma and reindeer collisions.

It’s bad enough to have your truck recalled because the brake pedal might fall off.

It gets worse when you find out there’s a good chance your truck wasn’t properly fixed … and the brake pedal still might fall off. When a 2015 Silverado that had previously been “repaired” as part of the recall was brought back in for service, it raised a big ole’ red flag.

The automaker then learned the truck had been repaired under a February 2016 recall, something that caused the automaker to open a formal investigation. The GM investigator determined the truck had only been inspected and did not receive adhesive on the brake pivot pedal nut even though the recall procedures required it.

GM is re-recalling 41,000 trucks to fix the problem. Maybe they’ll read the instructions this time.

Low voltage is temporarily disabling the power steering in more than 1 million GM trucks and SUVs

, prompting a massive recall for the 2015 model year. A near carbon-copy recall was made for similar vehicles back in August 2017. The major difference? It was 2014 model year.

Is anyone staffing the shoulda seen that coming department over at GM?

GM says it needs to bleed the brake systems of 230,000 previously recalled cars.

Some of the recalled vehicles have rear brake caliper pistons that have hydrogen gas trapped inside that could be released into the brake systems. ZF, the manufacturer of the brake pistons, didn't properly temper and chrome-coat the pistons, causing hydrogen gas to remain trapped in the bodies of the pistons.

Excess gas –– we’ve all had it, no-one likes it, and the same holds true for your braking system. This problem may cause your brake pedal to feel “spongy” but it’s unclear if it affects stopping distances.

During a crash sensing diagnostic modules (SDM) detect the impact and send a signal to the airbags to deploy.

But according to CarComplaints.com, the SDM in the 2018 Acadia might not be powering down properly when the SUV is turned off. The module may stay deactivated when the SUV is restarted, showing an airbag warning light to the driver and a message that says “service restraint system." Additionally, a driver will hear warning chimes indicating the airbags are off.

Basically, if it doesn’t shut down properly it won’t be able to turn on properly the next time the SUV is restarted. If that sounds familiar, GMC was part of a massive recall for similar module problems last year.…

While you're probably still digesting that extra serving of holiday cookies, here's something else to chew on

– GM says some 2017 Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia SUVs will have diminished braking ability because of hydraulic fluid leaks. Engineers found an oversized front caliper piston bore had allowed the piston seal to leak hydraulic brake fluid and it was determined the oversized bore can prevent the proper compression of the caliper piston seal.

GM says a red "BRAKE" warning light will come on when this happens. So if you see that, stop driving as soon as possible – which in these SUVs could take quite a while. The bad caliper assemblies are on Acadias built between 04/19/2016 and 04/22/2016

GM manufactured cargo vans that are either missing mirrors, or have improperly shaped mirrors.

Both are violations of federal safety laws.The 2016-2017 Chevrolet Express and 2016 GMC Savana were manufactured without inside rear-view mirrors and with right-hand convex exterior rear-view mirrors. That's a problem because federal safety regulations say the vans are required to have either inside rear-view mirrors or both left- and right-hand flat exterior rear-view mirrors.

The recall only affects 40 vans, but still the GM design team should take a long, hard look in the ... well, you know.

The modules that help control the airbags and seat belt pretensioners in a crash aren't working in 4 million GM vehicles, prompting a massive recall

that includes the GMC Sierra 1500/2500/3500, and Yukon. GM received an internal report in May relating to the crash of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado where the driver’s frontal airbag and seatbelt pretensioners were alleged not to have deployed.

GM opened an investigation into the issue in June and contacted Delphi, the supplier of the sensing and diagnostic module. The automaker gathered additional electronic data recorder records from other incidents where the same crash symptoms occurred.

The modules will need to be reprogrammed, GM just doesn't know when yet.

The 2013 Terrain has been added to a windshield wiper corrosion recall

that was recently expanded. GM ordered a windshield wiper recall that was limited to Canada’s “corrosion provinces” back in June. Well, turns out we use plenty of road salt here in the US of A as well, so the recall is expanding._

GM is recalling nearly 4,800 new trucks and SUVs

, and telling their owners to stop driving until their front upper control arms can be repaired. The automaker blames the problem on a bad weld near the control arm bushing, a problem the automaker discovered on a GMC Yukon XL Denali. The faulty weld can cause the control arm to change shape and eventually separate.

If you own a 2016 GMC Sierra, Yukon, or Yukon XL you should call your local service center right away. While you're on the phone, ask them about getting a tow for repairs and how to get a loaner vehicle in the meantime.…
